Rainfall warning in effect for:

Rain, at times heavy, continues.

A frontal system moving southwards down the BC Coast will continue to give heavy rain to the coastal sections of the Central Coast and West Vancouver Island Today. Storm totals near 100 mm are expected.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Central Coast - inland sections

A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected.

A frontal system moving southwards down the BC Coast will continue to give heavy rain to inland sections of the Central Coast today and tonight.

Rainfall totals near 80 mm are possible by the time rain eases Wednesday morning.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Weather Event Impacts: 

·       Possible flooding of some small streams in coastal areas

·       Increased risk of landslides and debris flows in prone areas

Timing:       Monday to Tuesday

 Key Points:

·       A Pacific frontal system will bring heavy rain and rising freezing levels to the North and Central Coasts on Monday and Tuesday.

·       The heaviest rainfall is expected to occur along the coast between Prince Rupert and Bella Bella. 70 to 90+ mm of rainfall over a 24 hour period is possible.

·       Much less rain forecast inland.

·       This system will bring warm air with freezing levels perhaps rising to 2000 metres on Monday night.

·       Heavy wet snow may collect over higher terrain for part of the storm.

·       The River Forecast Centre will monitor streamflows and high streamflow advisories or flood watches may be issued this weekend.

 

·       In the longer term, freezing levels will fall on Wednesday and a less intense but active pattern continues for the rest of the week.

Forecast confidence:

Moderate- precipitation amounts. There is a wide range of possibilities for rainfall amounts, monitor forecasts closer to the event.

High – regarding the wet pattern.
